FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Chiropractic Care

    Are chiropractors doctors?

Yes. Chiropractors are licensed Doctors of Chiropractic (DCs) with doctoral-level education and clinical training. They diagnose and treat conditions involving the spine, joints, muscles, and nervous system using evidence-based, non-invasive care. While not medical doctors (MDs), they are licensed physicians in their field.

    Is chiropractic care safe?

Yes. Chiropractic care is a safe, drug-free, non-invasive approach to pain relief and mobility improvement when performed by a licensed provider. Mild soreness can occur, but serious complications are extremely rare.

    What do chiropractors do?

Chiropractors improve spinal, joint, muscle, and nervous system function using spinal and extremity adjustments, soft-tissue therapy, therapeutic exercises, posture guidance, and lifestyle recommendations to relieve pain and restore movement.

Can chiropractors prescribe medication or perform surgery?

No. Chiropractors focus on natural, non-invasive treatments without drugs or surgery.

Do chiropractors take insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid?

Most insurance plans cover chiropractic care. Medicare covers spinal manipulation for subluxation. Medicaid (MassHealth) coverage varies by plan. Our team can verify benefits before your visit.

    Can chiropractors order imaging?

Yes. Chiropractors can order MRIs or X-rays when medically necessary. If imaging is needed, we refer patients to trusted local facilities.

What conditions can chiropractors help with?

Chiropractic care can help manage back and neck pain, sciatica, herniated discs, migraines, vertigo (certain types), pinched nerves, knee pain, scoliosis (management), pregnancy-related pain, and many musculoskeletal conditions.

    What causes the “cracking” sound?

The popping sound during an adjustment is gas releasing from the joint—not bones cracking. The goal is to restore healthy motion.

Do chiropractors work with special techniques?

Yes. We offer spinal decompression, gentle traction, Activator techniques (when appropriate), and hands-on manual therapy.

  • Dry Needling

What is dry needling and how does it work?

Dry needling uses thin, sterile needles to release tight muscles and trigger points, improving blood flow, reducing pain, calming irritated nerves, and restoring movement.

What does dry needling help with?

Dry needling is commonly used for muscle tightness, back and neck pain, sciatica-related muscle tension, headaches, tendonitis, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel symptoms, plantar fasciitis, hip pain, spasms, and sports injuries.

Is dry needling safe? Does it hurt?

Yes. When performed by a certified provider, dry needling is very safe. You may feel a brief pinch, twitch, or temporary soreness (24–48 hours), similar to post-workout soreness.

Is dry needling the same as acupuncture?

No. Acupuncture is based on traditional Chinese medicine. Dry needling is a modern, evidence-based technique targeting muscles and trigger points.

How long is a DOT medical card valid?

Up to 2 years, depending on health conditions such as blood pressure or diabetes.

What does a DOT physical include?

Health history review, vision and hearing testing, blood pressure check, physical exam, and urinalysis (not a drug test).
